ChatGPT has reached 100 million active users, making it the fastest-growing service in the history of the Internet.
It’s built on OpenAI’s GPT-3 large language model launched in 2020 and is considered one of the most sophisticated language models ever produced.
It was trained on over 45 million texts, using 175 billion parameters to analyze their contents.
To manage the high demand, OpenAI launched ChatGPT Plus, a subscription service costing $20 per month, which provides subscribers with access to ChatGPT even at peak times, faster response times, and priority access to new features.
But, running an AI model at this scale is not cheap, with some estimating the cost to be $3 million monthly for OpenAI.
Most (62.52%) of OpenAI’s site visitors are between 18 and 34 years old, and 65.68% are male.
Interestingly, an average of 53% of people can’t tell if the content is AI-generated.
Despite its success, ChatGPT has faced some controversy.
Italy became the first country to ban ChatGPT over privacy concerns, leading to a 400% increase in VPN usage.
OpenAI’s revenue predictions for ChatGPT are $200 million by the end of 2023 and $1 billion by the end of 2024.
Enough with the facts. Let’s talk features.
Or, in this case, a hidden feature called: Temperature Setting.
Let’s dive in.

ChatGPTs Hidden Feature
The Temperature Setting in ChatGPT is a hidden gem that most people don’t know about.
It’s a parameter that controls the generated text's randomness or "creativity" level.
Some key points about how the temperature setting works:
It's combined with the prompt to control the level of similarity between the generated text and the prompt.
Higher temperatures (closer to 1) produce more diverse and unpredictable output, while lower temperatures (closer to 0) produce more conservative and predictable output.
Lower temperature values tend to result in more readable and fluent text, while higher temperature values may result in more silly or confusing text.
API Access: ChatGPTs API (see the playground below) provides access to the temperature setting, incl. other parameters that you don’t see on the web interface.
This allows you to experiment with parameters and customize the model's behaviour according to your needs.

🌶 Low Temperature: 0.1 - 0.4
The output will be
Very focused,
Deterministic, and
Less likely to go off-topic.
This setting is ideal for expert advice, research, explanations or consultancy in a specific field, like
Finance
Health
Law
It produces conservative, consistent and precise answers.
Example Use Case Prompt
"Translate the following English text to French: 'Hello, how are you?'"
🌶🌶 Medium Temperature: 0.5-0.7
The output will be a nice blend of
Creativity,
Accuracy and an
Excellent mix for everyday use.
Responses will balance coherence and diversity, meaning more natural and engaging conversations.
Ideal for creating entertainment-focused replies.
Example Use Case Prompt
"Write a short story about a cat that can talk."
🌶🌶🌶 High Temperature: 0.8 - 1.0
Your output will be
Diverse
Creative
Unexpected.
Great for creative writing, idea generation and unique content like
Stories
Poems
Brand Names
Example Use Case Prompt
"Generate five different plot ideas for a science fiction novel."
💡 Remember, the temperature parameter is not the only way to control the output.
Your whole input plays a significant role, meaning
being more specific,
descriptive, and
detailed
About your desired outcome, format, style, etc., can help guide the model to produce your desired output.
💡Keep in mind: Accessing the API (the playground) requires an additional subscription.
